I've just saved a Diesel Forty wide gauge from going to China as scrap, but it's track frames are too badly rusted to use, does anyone in Australia know where I can find a set?
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,
Nothing is too far gone, it just needs a few welding rods.

Great find another one to add to the list.

As you say Daryl, a few welding rods, a bit of JB Weld, she will be purring again in no time. Some folks are happy for our history to go off to China as scrap, I'm not one of them sadly.

How far is too far Mike? : ) I just used 4# of wire filling in holes in one of my 5U frames so I can actually bolt the rollers on instead of welding them. Fitted new idler ears to the front of the frame as the originals were all worn out (like paper thin at the ends) and the previous owner had glued a piece of 1" to the side to help. I'm still debating whether to fit the D3 rollers to these frames or put D2 ones on this and build and brand new set of frames.

Cheers,
Neil

You will never hear me bragging about how smart I am Neil, and you have met me in person, so you know I'm not very bright.......

Picture shows the starting point of the restoration of this new D40

Just be patient with that D2 of yours, a good set of track frames and rollers will turn up, go get another Cat to keep you busy till then, Mother wouldn't mind......

Thanks for the offer Ken, over here in Oz, beggars can't be choosers, I'd take any wide gauge track frames and make them work, but I'd very much prefer the D35/ D40 track frames with their center supported top carrier rollers, than the later RD6 frames with their side mounted top carrier rollers.

You know me Tony, dumber than dirt....

The wreck is sitting 1,500 miles north of me right now, and until I get a chance to get up there, I won't know how stoopid I was, still, I like a challenge.
