A friend of mine bought this grader in an auction about 20 years ago and has been using it ever since. It was used to help build the Alaska highway during the war. Recently while doing an overhaul he ruined an injector pump and needs a new one. Any of you know where he could get one? Thanks!

Hi SIRI,
welcome to the BB.
The S/No you have given is likely the S/No of the actual injection pump, which is fine but, to identify the actual engine used we also need the Machine or Engine S/No which depending on the grader model, the fuel injection pump from an equivalent engine from a tractor or industrial engine could be either a D2, D4 or D6 tractor, D3400, D4400, D4600, or being a 1P Inj. pump the engine in question maybe a D6600 (3 cylinder) from a No 11 Grader S/No 6K.
From my RD6 2H3248-up Parts Book the 1P Inj. pumps were fitted to these RD6 Tractors at least.
A pump from one of these would get you the internal rebuild parts leaving only the Governor spring and Torque spring groups to be reused from the grader pump.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Thanks so much for your reply Eddie. The number 1P648 is actually the grader model. I got it from the plate mounted on the frame toward the front of the grader. I've attached a couple of pics of the grader itself, the injector setup, and the plated mounted on the engine just below the injectors.
Honestly, I don't know much about Cat engines or diesel engines in general. I've been helping my friend who has been a mechanic for more than 60 years, but he doesn't do technology stuff. So I said I'd see what I could do on that end. He ruined the original while removing it. He didn't realize until too late that you have to slide it horizontally before trying to lift it out. From what I could get from your reply, is that that particular injector pump was used on many different Cat machines. He's very interested in getting one that will get that grader working again.
Again thanks soo much for your help! We'd love to get that grader working again. He now has it running on 3 cylinders, but is just barley runs and certainly isn't able to move any snow/dirt.

Hey Siri,
If you provide your location here on the Bulletin Board, there just possibly MAY be someone near your friend that is greatly experienced with Cat equipment that MAY be able to assist your friend in getting his grader running. It is worth a try.

OK,
it maybe a 1R 212 Motor Grader with a D3400 ( D2) engine. There are also 212 Serial Numbers given of 1M, and 1U from the same era.
If you happen to check the lifter settings for the injection pump timing it is 1.741" as measured with the relevant piston at TDC on its firing stroke.
This would give an injection timing of 24* Before Top Dead Center.
A yellow covered Caterpillar Servicemen's Reference Book (SRB) Form No 30525 will describe how to do this or any other work on said 3 3/4" bore by 5" Stroke 4 Cylinder Diesel Engine.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Am I correct in assuming that the 2a3895 injector pump you have will work in this grader? If so would you please send me specifics for getting one. Email is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Thanks so very much!

Hi Siri,
what Hector has are the individual tall body injection pumps that are mounted on the top of the main injection pump housing that the injection pipes connect to.
If you need a complete injection pump and governor assembly because it was run with no oil or water in the fuel or such then a D2 unit with the governor spring and torque control if fitted, were swapped from the grader pump to the replacement unit should get you going.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
