Juiceman and other people that are curious. There is a photo of ridge breakers in the recent thread about a 15 being sold here in Calif. The second photo of the 15 shows another Cat off to the side with a set of ridge breakers. Lots of people have never seen them. Grant.

Look on page 72 in the 15 parts book. Caterpillar check breakers. There were a lot of aftermarket check breakers made also.

Hi Tea,
fairly sure I recall seeing some of the Check Breakers shown in the Caterpillar Film "The Big Track" from back in the early 1960'S when I was a first year Apprentice, there was a machine zooming around in an orchard ploughing around the trees in one part of it.
Scan below of a style of Check Breaker offered in the Twenty Two Tractor Parts Book.
Sure I recall others with springs on too.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Those are called ridge breakers, or check breakers. Years ago we would ridge up an orchard and irrigate, no sprinkler pipes then. When ridging up, and after irrigation, the ridge breakers, which are spring loaded, would lay the ridge down in order to keep you from getting bucked off the tractor, they worked great.

They are very nice looking, I had never heard of them and quite interesting explanation. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
I just couldn't help myself the other day - it was like it typed itself.
