I have a 16 inch South Bend Lathe for sale or trade for some 9U D6 parts. I am looking for 4 track carrier rollers on stands and an air cleaner. The lathe has a taper attachment, three 3/8 inch tool holders (Left, Right, and Straight) and is wired for 110 volts. The lathe is about a 1947 model. NO 3 morse taper in tailstock and N0 4 morse taper in headstock. NO Chuck. Spindle thread is 2 3/8 by 8 TPI. This machine was bought as a basket case and put back together. it has 8 speeds and a quick change gear box for thread cutting and longitudinal feed as well as power cross feed. Lathe is located in Saint Robert, MO. This would be a pick up only as shipping would be difficult. contact by text or phone and leave a message at 573 433 92seven seven. A good machine for making caterpillar parts.

Just curious, did you get a lathe upgrade?

No, I have 3 other lathes. a 17 inch by 24 inch Leblond, 12 by 36 Jet, and a 19 inch turret lathe. This one was one of two 16 inch South Bends, I bought as a package deal and I was able to trade one for a 9U D6. There is nothing wrong with this machine, I just do not need it, and really don't have room for it.

I had two SB, a 16 x 120 and a 13 x 36? The best thing was to get rid of those belt lathes. Gear head = big blue chips!

Lately that has been the way with most of my ventures. Too heavy and too far away. Good to see someone with a value for another true American product. Some of the machines people on this forum collect were made by these old machines when machinist were true machinist instead of todays button pushing computer controlled operators. Thanks u-joint for your interest. bboaz
