Does anyone have a correct gear for a Caterpillar by Prestolite pony mag or a whole mag for sale. I have a rebuilt mad without a gear and Eisman or American Bosh are different. Thanks Grant.

There are different styles of that basic mag. Post a pic and list application.

I am figuring out that there are a lot more variations than the limited books that I have indicate. The Prestolite mag says Made for Caterpillar by Prestolite. model #476471. I assume it came from a D2 or D4 but I have no idea of vintage. It is smaller then the Eismans or American Bosh. I have another very similar mag with a Chicago Magneto tag on it. It looked so close that I took the gear off and put it on the Prestolite, but it extended out by an extra 1/4 inch or so. I would have used the Chicago Mag but it is full of rust. I will try to post a picture Saturday Thanks, Grant.

That should be a Prestolite/Wico magneto # XH 2836 and uses rotor #4-5008.
Available at least this source, maybe others....

Old Magnet, I am in need of the drive gear, not the rotor. The link you posted doesnt seem to have the drive gear. I think both the Prestolite and the Chicago Magneto are actually made by Wico but the gears are not interchangable. I hoped to find somebody with a bad Prestolite and buy it or just the gear. I managed to get the American Bosh functioning enough to get the pony and main running but it needs a new cap and it looks pretty sad inside. I will keep the link for the rest of the parts that I may need. Thanks, Grant.

What machine is the mag to fit? I have a prestolite off a 8t cat that mounts upside down. It just needs a coil. The mount orientation determines the impulse coupler operation.

Cat 12 grader, 8T6995 running and restoring, Cat 12 grader 9K3585. parts machine, Adams leaning wheel Pull grader Mod # 22, ser#438

XH-2836 is the same as an XH-1907, uses a #6865 pinion gear.
