D2 pony with a crack was created by TOGNOT
I was getting ready to ship this to another member when I notice what looked like a run in the paint.
Did a little grinding and it's a crack. I've seen much worse ( on my D6 LOL)

Any way it's on a pallet ready to go. It ran , but has play in the end bearing. I don't recall I ever had the heads off. I converted to E- start.

Yes, mine has a crack there plus another halfway up. Runs just fine and barely weeps (brazed but could do with a layer of epoxy)

4 those who may know, can they overheat and crack there?

"In my opinion" unless there was a complete loss of coolant - suddenly- this crack would be caused by freezing. Overheating would score cylinder walls, burn Pistons , possibly warp head Etc

Pretty common to see cracks in the lower cylinder block area usually from freezing and the fact that the castings are rather thin. Plenty of them repaired by brazing.
