Pair of D4 7U Pony Motors

Hi everyone. I recently purchased HT4 7U 10342. The American Bosch MJK Mag on the pony had been modified to use an external coil and when pricing a replacement/refurb Mag I decided to go ahead and convert it to electric start instead. I've been going through the posts that Old Magnet has commented on and his website and have started gathering the parts for an electric start conversion. I plan on using the machine so I'm not concerned about keeping it all original. Here's the kicker, when I purchased the machine I got a spare pony motor in the deal. Both it and the one that is installed are electric start. The parts pony does not have a mag, carb, gov or fuel tank. I was able to get the one that's installed to fire on ether but the fuel tank was nasty so we didn't try gas in it. Can anyone give me an idea on what to price these at? I'm in Kingsville, MO - about an hour from Kansas City Missouri. I'm not opposed to shipping - I've heard you can ship store to store through Fastenal and will work with any potential purchasers.

It is not unheard Of to spend $1,000 on rebuilding a pony. But then you have a rebuilt pony. It's kind of a crap shoot buying a used one, but in "my opinion"...... If it ran and was complete you could sell it for $500

Prices vary in different parts of the country - and world!

Surely there is someone out there with the storage space and time to part them out. I know I wouldn't want to just bolt in a used one without going through it a little bit either. I'm guessing more and more people are doing the electric start conversion and ditching the pony.

i"d want a video of the crank shaft end play, thats make or break for me when thinking about making a offer. its kinda easy to do too. i don't need any more ponies unless really inexpensive. good luck.

I can set up a mag base / dial indicator and measure the end play, that's easy.

right, but finding a guy that messes with 'em and don't have a couple extras is the hard part. did you check with mike crowe in kc area or zimmermans in versailles? he had couple d4's or might know some not on the board. remember this old cat stuff is h & H, and mosttime a pia. good luck.

nomorejohndeere, I've been in the market for awhile now. Our JD 260 Series II skidsteer has it's limitations and I'm to the point now where small ponds are needing to be made so this should handle that just fine.

Ag-Mike, I haven't checked with mike crowe or zimmermans. I've pretty much just been looking on here.

Since I haven't gotten a real good grasp on a price on these I'll start out at $600 for the pair and yes I can go measure the end play on the cranks. If someone is within a couple hours drive I don't have a problem meeting them half way either.

I have a D47U and while my pony does run it's flat wore out. Cranks easy but has a lot of end play. I don't need any more projects but if the end play is minimal I may be interested.

Will a d4 7u pony motor fit a 1946 d2 5j? I'm in need of a new pony motor.
