Hi. I have a Cat D318 Engine that was supposably rebuilt and installed as the power plant for a paddlewheel river barge docked in St. Louis, Mo. It starts and runs perfect and shows 548 on the meter. To be honest I have no way to confirm if this has been rebuilt on not or if the meter is accurate. It comes with a 100 gallon fuel tank, a 100 gallon hydraulic tank, and the hydraulic motor that is bolted onto the bell housing, hoses, engine Frame and radiator. It was not used much except for periodic starting for maintenance purposes. I'd like to sell it for best offer and hope it will go to a good home. Please call me direct at 305-780-3902 or email <a href="This email address is being protected from spambots. Probably a "pump" on the bellhousing. The motor would be wherever the power is used.

Thanks John. So you think the engine was originally intended to power a hydraulic pump? It looked to me like the pump was installed much later based on the S/N plate on the pump housing. I wish I had a picture of it but its at the shop...

Hi Dale,
Because the hydraulic (what ever it is) was meant to take power from the engine (bolted to bell housing) I would assume that it is the pump and it's mate the "motor" is hooked to the paddle wheel.
It would make sense that it could be an upgrade from gearing so the pump could have been installed after the boat was built.
BTW, what year was it built? is there a way to tell?
On edit: The pic however does not show anything attached to the bell housing, including the starting engine. I am sure it should have one.

Will this engine have the oil pump with the oil pick-up tube for a dozer or will it be the Stationary engine without the additional tube which goes to the front of the oil pan? Is the 5V prefix in the serial number that of a stationary engine? To put this engine in a dozer wouldn't the oil pump have to be changed? bboaz

Oil pump, different injection pump settings usually, and normally a few other changes, often in the water pump and cooling system delivery. Basic engine should be the same based on what I have seen in old posts. A search will result in some reading material.
