Need to rebuild or replace leaking water pump on my D4 - 5T 646 SP.
Are parts, rebuild kits, or rebuilt ones available?
Thank you
Neil

I'm not aware of a "kit" to buy off the shelf but all the parts needed are available from your Cat Dealer except maybe the impeller (part number 7B9677) but they are available from a number of sources in the US like Florin Tractor Parts and others though can be spendy, just look on the Machinery Trader website using that part number.
Parts you need are two bearings 1B4115, two grease seals 7B2174, one water seal 7B2161, two gaskets 7B3954, and possibly one brass "Lock" 7B3349 for the impeller nut, the fan belt if needed is 7B4032, the Cat Dealer might offer you two different bearings, the alternate part number will be cheaper from their "Classic Parts" range, like $10 each while the original part number is about $18, stick to the original part number because it has a higher number of balls than the "Classic" bearing which from memory has 2 fewer balls, I noticed that when I did my D4 2T waterpump about a year ago.
Be aware when you replace the grease seals they need to be aligned differently so the grease can "escape" the water pump, if in doubt ask here again for advice but the "front" seal keeps the grease in while the "back" seal allows the excess grease to escape, also there is a large spring locking ring (P/N 7B0948) down inside the pump body that will prevent you pulling the pump shaft until that ring is removed, it will be hard to see under all the old grease till you clean everything properly.
Good luck
Mike

Hi - Thank you for the great info. Does the shaft get pressed out the front of the water pump
or from the front out the back? Neil

The shaft pulls out the front of the pump once you have removed that large circlip from the internal bore and obviously the impeller.

Thank you for the info. Bought the seal ($20) , pulled the impeller, installed the seal, and re-installed the pump.
No leaks. Great. Thanks. Neil
