they are just good for some parts maybe...

might need a stabilizer bar for the engine as well since they are using pallets to hold the motor up...LOL

Welcome to CA.
I've seen similar - it's for emissions reasons, but specifically for some form of state subsidy I think - the company/farmer can get money to offset the cost of new equipment but the old non compliant machinery has to be scrapped, so they have to disable it.
I would bet there's still quite a lot of useful stuff on there - basically everything but block and main frame. May be other things they did, I'd want to check it carefully but would guess much if not all the rest is usable.

You pegged it, Machias cat. We have a crazy, California taxpayer funded emissions reduction program over here. If you have an emissions tier 0 tractor which you can show is in use and you perform certified destruction of, the air resources control board will give you credit towards a new, replacement tractor.
There are several different programs, but most of them pay by horsepower retired with credit toward an equivalent horsepower replaced. A person I know turned in a used John Deere 8960 (about 400 horsepower) and received $250,000 credit towards purchase of an equivalent horsepower. Had he replaced with an equivalent new unit, that would have paid about half the new purchase price. In his case, he needed smaller tractors, so he got about half the cost paid for five new small vineyard tractors.
Part of the program is that certain scrap companies who are certified have to do the destruction. I've never seen one done this carefully. Generally, they cut the entire unit into 4 foot minus chunks, destroying anything that had commercial value. They have to provide photos of the before, during and after to the air board before the funding is supplied to the dealer for the new purchase.
Each of those D9s seem to have really good undercarriage and there are many other good parts, from what I can see. Maybe Glen will need these for spare parts.

Hey Gang,
The last Two D9g's I saw go across at two different Auctions had holes in block that had been repaired by welding up the hole cut in the block, some grinding, a little bondo, and painted over them. It's a shame so much history going to scrap. I know some farmers that have taken the money for old equipment to purchase new. They sign a contract that the new equipment has to record so many hours a year to be able to take the dollars. It sure is funny to see the equipment blocked up and running going no where just to record hours. All that wasted fuel to help the environment... hahaha... leave it to our greenies to save us all....

I agree Glen, those holes and cuts could be welded back up. The pallets are holding up the hardnose not the whole engine and front end.

I am puzzled by why they made those cuts and as Rome says, it looks like they have detached the hardnose. How will the buyer get those loaded out? It seems to me that one could disable the tractor by just air arcing some of the engine and leave the frame and hardnose intact. Or maybe we're looking at some evidence of interrupted radiator thieves?
I am also wondering what they pulled with these guys? I see hydraulics and don't see any CCUs or trunnions. Maybe large land planes?
So being a California taxpayer, it looks like I'm buying someone a new tractor (or several)! Old Moonbeam strikes again!
