I happened across this website and thought it would be of interest to anyone needing manuals for a Hyster winch. They are free to download.

Question:

I bought an early D4 Hyster winch at a sale that I believe to be the one listed on the HYSTER info as P/N 599181W. If you look at that Parts Manual it shows the winch mounted on an R4 tractor with the following note:

"Not recommended for a D4 6U or 7U"

I had planned to put this winch on my D4 6u. I do have an R4 but would like to put the winch on my D4.

Does anyone know of any reason why it would not be recommended for a D4 6U??

Thanks for any clarification on this.

R4Dan

I've seen that comment too but could never figure out what the limitation would be to mount to the 6/7U. Mounting might get a little more complicated going from side tank to seat tank models but I certainly don't see why it would not work on the side tank model. I have also found that some transmission top covers did not have the mounting holes for the top ear braces but that was not on the "U" models. Not about hp/strength as they offer a D6 mounting option for the D4 Hyster winch.

I see it the same way ... my D4 is a side tank tractor 6U 1717.

I agree it is not an issue of strength as you mention.

I have the R4 and D4 side by side and can't see any reason not to put it on the D4.

Old Magnet, ... I really appreciate your comments!
