folks,
there is a d2 5u 6xxx north of grand prairie alberta that I found in my travels today, it has a 2a blade on it in good shape, it has the hydraulic pump on the front with a good guard. it also has the diverter valve on the rh side fender to send oil to two hydraulic couplers beside the seat tank. it has a rear mounted pto that also ohas the belt pulley attachment that slides over the pto shaft and is held on with six bolts, the paper pulley is damaged, but the rest is good. the pony turns over and has electric start, the diesel is also free and does not show any signs of water in the oil it has a generator and the generator housing on the lh side of the motor. exhaust stack is covered. the tracks were decent as were the sprockets.
the bad:
the spring has moved to one side and fell off the track frame when they moved it with a big hoe, the engine is sitting nose down pretty hard. the sterring clutch levers stay rearward indicating that the clutches are probably seized, the brake pedal on the rh side is stuck depressed, and the lh brake lever moves but has no resistance or return spring.
the owner is looking to get rid of this machine, he would be willing to part it out. pm me for contact info. I just met the guy this morning.
he also has an old d8 sitting there that has a 2u engine in it, but it was the wrong dash and hood, vertical pony turned over and has electric start. machine is fairly well used.
he has two d73t's sitting there, one has the heads removed, the other is complete. both have cable blades. the one with the disassembled engine has very little wear on the hitch. the other has a big winch on the back.
he had another d8 there as well, it was after a 2u series but I couldn't find a serial number on the block and the rear was covered by a big winch.
he has a timberjack and a clark grapple skidder, and a clark line skidder.
he also has a carco winch off a d8 sized machine
he also has a double drum CCU that has a side drive shaft instead of the drive shaft that goes through the centre of the mounting flange. would be for a d7 or d8 tourque converter machine.

Mog..... i always thought living in the "gap" would be worse then living at the end of the world... LOL. There's lots of junk (treasures) on old homesteads down in southern alberta, saskabush and manitoba a person just has to drive around and find it. there was one guy who was a serious junk collector and scouted out stuff from the air using his cessna, then he would drive out to the farm and try and buy it from the owner.
Straycat, Sent you a pm.

Hey Martin, You seem to have a pretty good nose to find stuff in your area. With your current line up at your tender age, I can see you with a couple hundred by the time you are 60.

hey i like that idea about using a airplane for looking for old iron. funny thing is my boss just got his pilots licence last week. now i have a reason to go flying lol. ya i would rather live at the end of the world than where i am right now but i still have a job with all the cuts going on with the bad oil prices i think i better just count my blessings.
