Here is the road building equipment that Fred Beard ( Reynolds, ND ) owned to build many of the roads here in Traill County of North Dakota. My dad, Alvin Lerfald ( Lerfald pioneer farm ) was part of this operation as he owned an international td 9 crawler with dozer. Alvin assisted in the road building by pushing rocks off the pile that the caterpillar 42" elevator grader made eventually calling it the road! All of us boys that grew up on the Lerfald pioneer farm (Allan, Duane, Luther and Darrell ( buck ) Lerfald played in the ditches while constructing the roads here. Road construction started in the 30's and ended in mid to upper 50's. Fred beard was born and raised in the Reynolds, North Dakota area. My dad Alvin Lerfald was born (October 1915 ) and raised on the Lerfald pioneer farm on section 9 of Morgan twp of Trail county North Dakota and was still a kid working the farm thru the " dirty 30's . He retired from farming in 1985 and was taken home in December of 2000. This is most likely equipment that many people never knew existed or have never seen, until now! Luther Lerfald on the Lerfald pioneer farm, rural route at Hatton, North Dakota. The caterpillar equipment is a 42" elevator grader with a 4 cylinder gas engine ( engine serial no. 6 a 33 ) ( steel on back--tires on front ), Attachment 42040caterpillar 12' blade serial no. 6c 507, caterpillar 3 compartment fuel tank on wood ( in shed since 1960 )
