1950 D2 5U crawler for sale

I have a D2 5U crawler that needs a good home. There is a lot of history behind this dozer. Too much to go into in this message.
Basically it has 1700+ hours of run time on the meter. It was used in the 50's on coal strip mines to pull fuel tanks and water tanks.
My dad used it briefly for a few seasons in an apple orchard to pull a spray machine. I ended up with it after he passed away. I rescued
it from a collapsing building, and had it hauled to my home. I drove it onto the hauler under it's own power, and it has been sitting here
since then. I do not have the means or resources to restore it, or the space to keep it any more. The problem with the machine is the steering
clutches are froze up. It will drive forward and backward all day, but you can't steer it. The oil cooler has a hole in it, and it sprays oil
when it is running, but I bypassed that to get it loaded and unloaded. The pony engine runs, but needs some carburetor work. If I can't
sell it within 30 days of this post, regrettably I am going to have it hauled off for scrap. It would be a shame to do that, but I have no
choice. I am having a garage constructed where it sits and it has to go. My asking price is $1000.00 I have attached some pictures
so you can see what it looks like. I am sure that some Caterpillar Enthusiast out there could at least use it for parts if nothing else. The diesel engine
sounds and runs great, and it has a PTO. If interested, or questions, you can reply to this message or email to <a href="This email address is being protected from spambots. Cash only and buyer is responsible for transport. The location of the machine is in upper East Tennessee. One of the pictures shows a
plastic bowl over the fuel tank opening. I purchased and installed the proper fuel cap online since the picture was taken.

You know it! I have some steering parts and 20" grousers with tapered cleats that will fit just right.

Thanks Robin with the help loading. Got home easy, no problems. And thanks to "Grandpa in-law" Gene for driving with me, good company makes the road shorter. The link hight is a solid 2 15/16", and looking at the sprocket and shoes, believe the hour meter is correct.

Stephen,
I am glad that you had a safe trip home. It was a real pleasure meeting you and Gene. By the way, I was so sore for a solid week that I felt like I had been dragged down a dirt road by a runaway mule.:deadhorse: I hope youall enjoyed the home made chili. So how are you coming along with the D2? Did you
get the pony started? And does the diesel engine run as good as is always did. I wish you well and hope you enjoy your treasure. Send me some pictures as you go.

Best Regards,
Robin Hopkins

Robin, I installed a good magneto last week and made new covers to keep the water out of the brakes. Worked on the carb today, the cork float was sunk! Got the pony and the main running today. The diesel runs with a lope I am going to check the filters etc. I am going to etch the gas tank and seal with POR-15. Also dug out a pony exhaust pipe from the trove. Really just want to get the tractor winterized, fluids circulated and changed and wait for spring.
