I have for sale a recent rare find. An all wood hand crafted 48" long, 30" wide, 24" tall Caterpillar Crawler. From what I was told, this model was meticulously hand built by a life long Caterpillar employee. Making some assumptions by what I was told and where found, I'm guessing the builder lived and worked in or around Peoria and vacationed and eventually retired to the northern Wisconsin Rhinelander area. The area I was visiting when I stumble across this fine piece. I called the Caterpillar corporate phone number listed and no one answered. I thought maybe THEY would be interested in purchasing this model for a museum of some kind. I am new to this site and will attempt to attach several photos of the model in my van so there will be some sense of scale. The tracks, assembled with hundreds of parts, dowels, and kotter pins, are completely functional when pushing or pulling the machine. The Crawler is for sale cash in as is as found condition for $1000. I welcome any and all questions. Crawler is located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin about 80 miles north of Milwaukee and 45 miles south of Green Bay. Please contact initially through email (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). Hope the photos load. Thank you, Warren in Wisconsin.

Someone went to a lot of work to build this but I am wondering why they did not attend to more detail when doing it. The three head engine is really curious along with the steering clutch handles being upside down. The entire scale appears to be off. The track frames look like they were copied from Glen's "Mary Ann". IMHO, there is not much here that reflects a detailed model that just a little more work would have improved the end result.

My guess is that a grand child needed a Cat and grandpa built one. Not trying to copy any model but making a child real happy to sit on it.

OIH I reckon your onto it as people might have guessed Im not one to be real big on details and things being right my grand father built us grand kids large wooden toys when we were kids nothing was to scale right and the angles werent right but we loved them and still get a kick out of them today went under grandma's house last time I was there was a few years ago now and got them out I had a bigger smile than my boy
All I know is if I was a grand kid and my grand father built it for me Id have a grin from ear to ear I wouldnt care if it was spot on I just would know it would be a lot more fun than a X box or a I thingy

Thank you all for the helpful info. Sounds like any project like this would vary in the amount of detail from one craftsman to the next. Thought someone might like it for a display piece in their man cave. Can't make the show in Edgerton WI as I will be in Davenport IA checking out the vintage motorcycle show/swap the same weekend. Will be taking the Caterpillar model down for a friend to try to sell in his cycle swap space. If anyone is interested along my route to Davenport from Oshkosh WI, we could meet some where along the way. Cell phone is (920)410-6166.
