Got the clutches out of my d4 today and found out that someone broke the bearing saddle that holds the bevel gear and clutch assembly and welded it. I'm really bummed because I thought it was a nice machine until now. Apparently it worked like that for a long time but I just don't feel good about putting it back together that way. Let me know if you guys think it's not worth fixing. I live in central Pa

I still need a late model 7u tranny case. I found one but it had cracks too. Maybe they are known to crack? If I can't find one there will be some d47u parts available in the future.

yes they are. I had four of them once and only one was a good'un - the rest I scrapped. The local Cat dealer had a good side line once welding them up which required a full strip down and many hours of work. Welding is fine provided it is done correctly. The trouble ones I had were all fitted with a winch but worn/failed bearings can cause the same outcome. The good one I had never had a winch and the bearings were in good nick.

But I trust you'll get one eventually.

Well, mine has a ripper on it. Maybe that has something to do with it? lol The bearing saddles for the ring gear are broke almost like the ring gear tried to climb the pinion or something.

lets see the ripper. how late a tractor u got. i got parts.

Someone posted this repair a long time ago, wonder if it's the same one.
Tough fix but I guess it can be done. I seem to recall the repair was in Europe somewhere with no other option.

Mike, my ripper is a no.4 and the tractor is a 1956 so the tranny case doesn't have the reverse idler gear hole. Old Magnet, that is the exact repair that was done on mine except it doesn't look anywhere near that nice. Mine looks like a pigeon came along and ... well, you know. And while I was looking I found out that the other side is cracked too but they must not have seen it because it is not welded at all. Maybe I'll find a case. I'll give it some more time.
