I'm currently living/working in the Russian Far East, Amur oblast region. I'm always looking for old cat tractors here. As for exporting them from here, I'm not sure that would be very easy with Russian legislation etc.

I'll throw in my share for a 3rd , I'll bet we can fit 3 in a container p.s. I have a buddy in the k.g.b.

This is a project I have contemplated for a couple of years now, have done some research, need to do a lot more. The nearest I have got to one of these tractors was in Latvia in June. I found a radiator side plate with the Russian cyrillic lettering. Unfortunately the manager of the property only spoke Latvian and German, a handful of English, if I understood him correctly, he knew of 2 tractors in Siberia. I have good friends in Riga, who I am waiting on to visit and interview this man.

Out of approximately 64,000 tractors built, I gather only a few remain, the iron harvest during the war and more recent times in the Soviet has been huge, thus they have virtually all gone to the furnace. Yes Russian legislation, corruption and language make this a very difficult project, made harder by the current situation in the Ukraine. The two areas the tractors were used was the military during the war, mostly destroyed and melted, the other was the large farming areas, guess where, the Ukraine, particularly on the Western Steppes, the food bowl of Russia, hence the present conflict.

I am in for the challenge, I can see it will take a number of years, but the reward of getting some of these tractors out into some of our better collections would be immense. They are part of the history of Caterpillar, would be a shame if we cant keep and display this bit of history.

The other very collectable tractor is the Komatsu equivalent of the Cat 2 Ton, most of them lie rotting in the Jungles of Asia.

the only Russian crawler I have found is this Romanian built Utos KD-35 crawler "Manufactured by Uzinele de Tractoare "Sovromtractor", latter "Ernst Thalmann" Orasul Stalin (Tractor Works-UTB Brasov), Romania between 1951-1957 by soviet license." Info taken from Internet.
Some say it's a copy of a D4 but the track is very Russian tank like.
