Own a piece of Central California history! This RD6 was purchased new by the Fred E. Salyer Company. That family, along with the J. G. Boswell family, drained the 400,000 acre Tulare Lake in the 1910's through 1930's. They used many Best, Holt and Caterpillar machines for the reclamation and for their farming operations.
This machine was a working ag tractor all its life. As new machines arrived, it moved further and further to the back of the line, eventually being retired to the back of the line. It was loaned by the family to the Tulare Farm Show organization, along with two other RD6s and two RD7s. It lived on the show site for the past fifteen or twenty years. The entire group was moved around two or three times, but basically were on static display. The farm show is going in a little different direction now, so this tractor is available. You could be essentially the second owner.
This is a wide gauge tractor. The serial numbers match and the serial number is 2H4375W. Everything on it works as it should. You may have seen my recent questions about timing the magneto. The pony engine was stuck from sitting, but it has been freed up and, as you can see from the video, it starts easily and runs well without smoke or excessive blowby. The rails are fairly thin, but plenty serviceable for a hobby machine. The pin bosses are not hitting the rollers. The pins and bushings have not been turned and show relatively little wear on the initial wear surfaces. The pads and grousers have plenty of life left in them. We'd like $5,000 for the tractor.
