I would like to buy a complete Pony Motor for a 9U D6. Running or one to be rebuilt would be fine. Would like to have one with an electric start but not required I have bought a 9U D6 that has been converted to electric start and I would like to put a pony motor back on it. I am located in central Missouri and would travel ( within reason) to pick a motor up. Contact 573-433-9277 or private message with e-mail address and I will reply. Thanks bboaz

I have one for a 4600 motor. I think it is the same as the 9U but not 100%. Somebody here will know for sure.

The cover plate that mounts the magneto is different. Mag mounts vertical on the D4600, angled on the D318. They are different magnetos.

OM Will the angled mounting plate for the 318 fit on the 4600 pony motor? I would also think the exhaust and air cleaner/ air intake system would be different because of the difference in the 4600 and the 318. Maybe like the D2 and D4 Pony motors. Same basic block just different auxiliary parts.

Old Iron habit: I think I will try for one that came off 9U first. If all else fails I will keep you in mind. Thanks bboaz

Yes, the mounting plate will interchange, along with everything else. Basic blocks are the same.

Why do you want to give up the direct start?

I have one with a good block, but someone pulled the heads and the pistons are seized in the bore. carb is there but exhaust manifold is missing.

I have a complete one to sell, crank has a bit of end play and exhaust manifold is rusted, it is off a late (1957) 9u, I have never had it running but it fires on both cylinders. needs a mag. all other bits are there and it has electric start housing but starter itself is missing.

shipping would be from Canada, your expense. PM me if your interested.

BTW, I have both a d4600 and d318 engines, Like OM says the mags mount up different, there is also a different gear that changes the timing of the mags between the d4600 and d-318 engines. not sure how easy it is to find a gear for them to switch between the two, I do know that the D-4600 pony won't bolt into a d-318 because the intake manifold for the diesel is on opposite sides and the exhaust manifold, water manifold wont work between the two, and the mag on the d4600 pony would hit the diesel intake manifold on the d318 hence the position change of the magneto's.

OM Not giving up the electric start, just adding a pony for cold weather. I have a D-2 with both a pony and electric start. Start initially with the pony and then use the electric start after it has warmed up. Actually it gives you the best of both worlds. A summer starter and a winter starter.

Yes, that's a good combination.
