Thirty question was created by gary ca
I have a 1929 Cat Thirty that has a mixture of pin and button style grease fittings. Which is the original fitting? I can find pictures of both in my manuals. they refer to an Alemite A336 and Alemite 1510. Thanks, Gary

Gary, I wish I could answer your question but cant, I have been told the pin style was original for the sixty, I am curious myself if its true and when it changed.

Gary, I think that the button type are correct. I believe the pin type are for pressure lubing with stiffer grease, more similar to a modern day zerk. I don't think that the material or the higher pressures attainable with the pin type fitting are appropriate for the rollers on a Thirty. I think you can use the pin type fitting without hurting anything as long as you're careful about pressure or use a pressure relief valve so you don't blow out the seals on the rollers.

Others here know a lot more about the Thirtys and other earlier gas Cats than I do, though. Hopefully they'll chime in and correct as necessary.

Pete.

Looks like the alemite "A" style pin fitting is correct for the early thirtys, Best etc, the early Cat thirtys used several styles, with the bottom rollers using the button fittings and the carrier rollers using the Alemite pin fittings, the later thirtys and replacement parts used just the button fittings.
