My book shows the starter for the R5 as a delco remy 477, updates to 1109150, updates to a 1113308,

updates to a MT35 clockwise rotation 13 tooth bendix. I can only confirm the 13 tooth bendix, as I have never seen

any of these starters. I have a delco remy 578 on my 40 that i found in a friends scrap pile that works great.

the 578 is direct drive and cannot be installed or removed without removing the engine side door.

I think the 477 was a gear reduction starter like the 574. Jon

Any Update on this one? Did you find a starter & generator? If so any advice to pass on? Looking at adding electric to mine as well.
