Hey All,

I'm looking for a little help tracking down new D2 pony motor head to manifold bolts. The updated part# is 5B-8857 (3 and 3/16" long 3/8 inch N. course on one end and N. fine on the other). The CAT dealer still has the number in the system but said they don’t stock it as it is now discontinued!! If no one can help, I guess the only other option is to have a machine shop turn some out. This is a last ditch option as it is REAL expensive for four bolts.

Thanks for any info/ideas,

J.

Replied by old-iron-habit on topic Use longer bolts
I made some studs similar to what you describe some years ago by buying high grade bolts in a longer length then cutting the head off and threading the cut end to the fine thread. It was for a pump application and it is still working. I would think a 4 to 4-1/2 inch bolt would work for you.

Or just find the local Cat parts yard and get some second-hand.

I'm sure I have a few studs saved from a junk block. I will be home in a few weeks if you aren't in a big hurry.

I found mine at the local hardware store. Traditional service same family owns since 1960's. Kleindorfer's Hardware, Bloomington IN. My son brought the studs in with him to match up-I think they had the match. No problems with clearances or fitting the nuts, other than the tight space.
