Questions about a D2 5U

About 1957 my family bought the last D2 in stock from Deitz Brothers Tractor on Lafayette Street in Santa Clara, Ca. Shortly thereafter my father passed away and we continued farming for a short while. I went into the military and when I got out I was disappointed to find my mother had sold the tractor that I loved so much. I know it was a direct start 5U orchard model and it had the longer frame and I think 5 rollers on each track. Are these hard to find and what should I expect to have to pay for one in decent condition. Also any other information regarding this tractor would be appreciated.

Hi Silverstreak , Welcome to the board. A 1957 D-2 will command a premium price, depending of course on its condition. You can get some idea of one persons asking prices in CA by going here... www.vintagecrawlers.com Good luck in your search.

Silverstreak, it's a very long shot but if you know the serial number of your Father's D2, it may be possible to locate it in the D2 registry.

Hi Tom,
I wonder if Caterpillar would have a record of the serial number if I gave them the name it was purchased under?

Sliverstreak,

Is the dealership who sold the tractor to your father still in business, as you would stand a chance of finding out further details from them?

Otherwise, I wouldn't expect Caterpillar to be able to assist you with this query.

I have a D25U sr # 17845 direct start orchard model. Go to my web site www.omnitrac.com and look at it in the used equipment section.
