Folks,
Does anyone know the model number of the hydraulic system/tank that is used on a D4D tractor (serial # 83j942). I am trying to get a filter to replace the one attached to the side of the tank and Fabick CAT cannot find the filter part number based on just the tank serial number alone. I know that replacing the filter is described in the service manual I have but I don't believe the hydraulic system/tank model # is shown.

I am also trying to replace a leaking o-ring on the valve that operates the 4-way blade tilt cylinder. I can find ones that are close but would rather find the right o-ring rather than just get one that's close. I did this once and it is still leaking so I am wondering if the o-ring is slightly undersized (thickness wise).

The D4D uses the #143 model hydraulic controls but the number on the tank is required to identify the serial number......should contain something like 48E1....49E1....55E1 - up. You have to get into a 143 hydraulic control parts book to nail down the numbers.

Also is your tilt cylinder control valve separate from the tank or incorporated into the tank.

Hope all is well. I am stripping the tractor down for repainting and fixing some of the remaining issues as I go.

Hydraulic tank: with my poor vision and bifocals the number I saw on the plate on the tank looks like "62G10443" I could not see any other numbers on the plate but will get some better eyes to go looking. It's the tag on the left front of the tank as I face it looking towards the driver's seat as I stand on the track.

Tilt cylinder valve: The actual control valve (where the arm is connected) sits on the right side of the operator under a metal box bolted to the fender. The entire valve with 2 steel lines running to the front of the tractor (where it then goes to flexible hoses) sits under the metal box on the fender. From this valve there are also 2 steel hydraulic lines that run to the hydraulic tank. In my mind, this is separated from the tank.

The Fabick Cat guy called back to Peoria for me to find out that the tractor got delivered with the #143 model hydraulic control as I am typing this reply to you. He thought I'd be better off asking this website as he has not been successful get Peoria to answer his questions in any kind of a timely manner. I am actually amazed that Peoria would even keep these kinds of records.

Based upon that, it appears that OM could get paid for consulting work if you were interested. Thanks again for helping out.

62G10443 is a good serial number.....was used on both the D6 and D4 tractors.
Unfortunately that is not one of the serial numbers for which I have a Parts Manual. Do have the service manual. If they order parts by that number you should be safe.
Ought to look pretty spiffy with a new paint job......have fun.

I am using paint from CAT and find it to be pretty friendly to paint with and it produces a nice finish. I did have to reduce it by 20% instead of 10% per the directions to get it down to the level of viscosity to paint with. I would think that I am not the only one with that "problem" and am wondering whether anyone else has found that the paint is too thick to spray well at 10% reduction.

I'll post some pics tomorrow of a D4 without any clothes on as it's been stripped down to bare metal.
