Has anyone had success repairing or trying to repair a flathead carb. that has been broken off at the flange that bolts on the block. I understand that is a weak spot on the pot metal carbs. Frank

I have seen a lot of them that have been welded together. You might want to find some shop that has a lot of experience working with aluminum, as the process is about the same. Good luck, as those are a hard carb to find!

Actually, that's not aluminum, it's an aluminum alloy called pot metal. I've tried straight heli arc with aluminum filler rod and had mixed results. The best bet would be to use pot metal filler rod. If you can find an older welding shop that's been in business a long time, the ought to be able to take care of that.

Walt and Ol Grump, Thanks for the info. I forgot to mention that I don't have the broken pieces of flange from the carb. I'm going to have to find some kind of carb. that has a flange that will fit the CAT 10 and 15 block. Frank
