Scraper Tyre Problems

We used a D8H with a big ripper on it, to brake loose rear DW21 tires once. I remember doing this to 5 29.5x29 tires that had been taken off scrapped machines. We used quite a few hardwood blocks in the process to get the tire completely stripped. After the snap ring was removed, a larger tapered ring was a pain to remove too. I remember pushing the blade down on the tire, then the ripper down, until the tracks were off the ground. Sometimes a little lurch with the blade was needed but it always worked. I guess that would be half of 37 tons on the tire. Don't know if that's any help...Phil
