The hard working crew from Skyview laying fiber optic cable for our local
phone company.....here a D9N pioneers for a couple of rock saws....ground
that we refer to as ' Terra Firma '.....the D9 is running his ripper ahead, then
the rock saws try to cut down deeper.
They have four of these saws on this job.....a little closer look:
The business end of this Bad Boy.....man would I like to have one of these for
a few days!!

Heading on up the road.....that's some of our wheat there on the right.
Behind the D9 & the saws.....here comes a D8N shanking in the cables....
three of them as you can see...
The cable is being fed to the D8 off of a trailer that is set up on a Mobil Trac
undercarraige, pulled by a Cat 950 Loader.
Geterdone!!!......

The plan is to lay as much of the cable as they can in the borrow ditch
right along the road.....sometimes that plan has to flex a little. Here they hit
a REALLY solid rock ledge, so they moved over into the field just a bit for
a short stretch.
They were smokin' right along here ....good dirt & no rocks.
Getting to the end of the fun....back to the borrow ditch:(

A nice shot of the D9N in action out in front.
They had that Bad Boy parked in front of our ranch foreman's house overnight....
I told him to tell his wife that the D9 was what she was getting for Mothers Day

Nice pics. Thanks. Those are not cables they are plowing in but flexible conduit. The cable will be placed in the conduit(some may have several interior sections called innerduct). With the rock you have there, the conduit is good protection for fiber cable. Once the conduit is is in place that crew can probably blow 10-15,000 feet of cable through the conduit with a air compressor in a short time. If all the innerducts are not used then there is a path for future cables without diggin again.
Good luck

Good one, Old Magnet! When I was telling my brother-in-law up in Seattle
about it, he deemed this project to be part of the government's " No Hick
Left Behind Program"
