Hi, i have aquired a 2u D8 that is missing the magneto on the pony engine. I have a mag off a 9u D6 and was wondering if anyone knew if the magnetos were interchangeable or not. I dont have a problem buying a rebuilt but the previous owner never used the pony, they push started it with a payloader, and they dont know anything about the condition of the pony other than its not stuck. Thanks
Steve

Don't think so. I loaned a friend a mag off one of our D318's to try to start a D73T he was recovering and he said it wouldn't fit. I think that would be the same pony motor as your 2U
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

Aways fun to sort out these magnetos as there are so many variations:confused:
I would have to say no.
The D6 uses a clockwise rotation & horizontal flange (typical AB model MJK 4/2 360D 408)
The D8 uses a counter-clockwise rotation & vertical flange (typical AB model MJK 4/2 180D 311)
Both have impulse drive
If you post the serial numbers for both the D6 & D8 and the AB number on your D6 Mag I can go at it again through the Cat numbers. The parts are interchangeable and rotations can be changed if you have enough parts to get the right combination.
