What are the pad thingies in front of the roller frames on the two tailseat machines? Are those to keep limbs from getting pulled down beneath the tracks? We don't have things like that over here in "Corn Country".

I askedthat question a year ago, They (pad thingies) are furrow busters used to smooth travel across fields that have been plowed already, The pads when folded down act as a plow to smooth the surface for the tracks to ride on.

I have heard them called "check breakers". When they flood irrigate an orchard they pull up a series of checks throughout the orchard. When they go back to disc and float the orchard the check breakers are used to break down the checks and smooth the path for the tracks so the Cat doesn't have to rear up over each one.

Well here in Calif. where they originated they are called ridge busters after you disc a vineyard or orchard one direction and leave ridges and furrows you disc other direction with them, so every disc width you dont bounce over the ridge . In case of vineyard they could be evry 6 ft and on a tailseat after 8 hrs bouncing over a 6 in burm evey 6 -8 ft you are beat to death I KNOW LOL
