Now that you mention it, you may be able to remove the cap off the clutch housing and gain enough clearance. I never tried it as I needed to remove the entire clutch for other reasons.
The problem is that if you are removing the pump housing by hand, its weighs enough that you will not like having to reinstall it in the fuel tower if you have to remove additional stuff to gain clearance. Hopefully someone will have the answer before you pull it.
Sorry to hear about your mom. You are going to be very busy with her problem so the BB info will catch up long before you pull the pump.

remove the 4 nuts on pony clutch housing drain oil out of clutch and remove front cover this gives enough clearence to slide pump and govenor off as one unit its not as heavy as it looks much easier than seperating govenor and pump on tractor then you can put it on work bench for rest of repair install the same way back on tractor
i have done half a dozen 7Us this way its pretty straight forward and simple

Although this thread may be 3 years old, I found the information here, and on another similar thread very useful to do the same repair job on my D46U. I used a small chain hoist to take the weight of the pump & governor to save squashed fingers and by removing the cover plate on the pony motor clutch housing, there was plenty of room to swing it out onto the track. A 12'' 3/8 drive extension with a uni socket did the job on the back bolts. I am sure that Cat developed confined access on the way this pump is mounted. The pump shaft seal also replaced as it was hard and probably would have been damaged on re-assembly. About $16 for parts from Cat and 6 hrs of my time had it running again.

I am a new member. I have a D4 7U serial #11867. I also have a problem with diesel fuel getting into the crankcase. I know this is an old post but should be very helpful. Can anyone tell me if replacing the two seals as suggested in this post solved the problem or if there could be additional areas to look at that my also contribute to the problem.
Thanks

Replacing the two seals, especially the one between the filter tower and pump is the usual solution to the problem.
In some cases where the fuel transfer pump seals fail and the drain line for the seal cavity is plugged fuel can also migrate to the sump.

I think I may have same problem on my 5uD2. low fuel pressure changed filters no help The oil seem thin and stack slobbers very badly (black measles everywhere) also pump oil level was very high. It looks like the same setup as the d4 can it leak the same way and will it transfer fuel into the pump case as well?

Finally got to my cat after the snow melted and took the fuel injector pump housing and governor off to replace the O-ring seals. Took the housings off together and brought them back to town to work on them. Looking for advise before I start taking the two apart. I do not want to take any more of the governor apart than necessary. Looks like a linkage on the rack assembly. Not sure what else. Any help on which covers to remove would be appreciated. I did a search but was unable to find anything. Sorry if this has been covered numerous time before.
