I have had an interesting week working on high HP engines 2 Cummins motors (VTA 17 10's both need new piston /liners etc thats 24 in total) plus one CAT Motor that I have never seen before, its a D348 V12 Serial no 36J1059, it has a 5.4" bore with 6.5" stroke, I dont know its power output, but it sounds very good , it only has 324 hours on the clock from new, sadly I did not have to pull it down to my usual heap of bits, only remove rocker covers, etc to inspect internal condition, and check over ready for full load testing +10%, on load bank test it held 525 kva then it was popped with another 50kva, with this load the turbo boost pressure was 29psi, another thing that I have never seen before was it was fitted with 5 6v bats, the starting system was 32 -35 volts, the engine was only fitted with the one starter motor although it has locations for two,I have some good pic's of this old banger that I will put up as soon as I get back home from Germany, (Bauma Plant show)

Ps Justin the skinflint ( the engine owner) thinks I can fit 12 new Pistons/liners, sort 48 valves in 4 C/heads , then have it ready for load test in a week, did you ever get easy to please chaps like him to work for, also this has to be done in the " BIG WORKSHOP " the one with no roof or walls,

Yes that was a very popular engine back here & was the power plant for the 992 wheel loader & the 777 truck which we had lots of the loaders here in the area that we sold & also one CO. had several of the 777 trucks. Also there was a D346 V-8 used in equip. There was two different D346 engines & totally different in engineering. The early one was a 90 degree block with a valve & cam system like the D343 engine & the later ones along with the D348 had a 60 degree block & different valve & cam system like the one you have there. There also was a D349 used in big trucks & industrial & marine use.I noticed you said it had a 30 V starting system but I never saw one of them but saw lots of the engines with two starters on them.Factory turbo boost pressure spes is not in psi but inches of mercury which is twice psi.I always used a psi gauge when I was dyno testing or field testing engines or road testing truck engines & then I changed the specs over to the in. of mercury. Checking boost pressure will always prove whether an engine is putting out it,s rated HP or is down on power if a problem is experienced. That was an old complaint with truckers "Oh" I don,t have no power or low on power so you can prove it,s up to the specs for the engine.

Tony, what you doing taking a vacation? The Customer needs his engines up and running.
Ken that is what the 8 Volt batteries are for in the safe source book. The 32 volt system. Never seen one must be Marine or Millitary use.

Bob this is no "time out" its an earner, I have to see dealers to order hydraulic pumps, engines also cranes (truck mounted) plus possibly help with the ordering of 2 special build low loader trailers from Italy or Netherlands, so going to the Bauma Plant show is a good place to see all the right people in a few days in one location , spend somebody else's money and keep myself focused on the best and latest kit about, I always seek out the chap with the brains on any show stand, I dont need to here sales talk ,I need informing of the way and reason its built the way it is, also what it can do, at the last show I went to, I met a young chap on the Cummins engine stand that designed the engine controller (ecm) the brains on this young man was top rate, I made myself known to him, getting his own works phone No ,and have had some great help off this chap with the converting of engines out of trucks to run generators, this is info "From the Top" thats what I need, I will bring a few pics home,

Neil the London Job is all a bit Arty-Farty sort of thing, it involves lowering then placing tanks in the White Cube Art Gallery, these tanks will then be home to a great big Shark, half in each tank, the Shark being cut in half length ways, this is going to be filmed (TV), there is a party somewhere along the line, where a bit of rough can go a long way, "I am Dog Rough" as you know, I collected my pic's today of some jobs I have done this month, including the engines I have been doing for "Justin the Skinflint" I have to change 24 pistons/liners, then sort 8 cylinder heads with 96 valves , also swap out 2 cam shafts, justin has worked out it should take me a total of 12 days max, I get sick as a dog after doing a 3306 cylinder head, so this is going to be a right old Torture Chamber for me, lets hope the German Beer keeps my head numb,
