The 7J started production in 1939 so yours would be a year or two newer I,d guess.AS for the R seems like you need a letter to go with the SN unless my book doesn,t show your model. Is it an RD4 tractor or a gas model?

Hi clogs,
my above booklet compiled by the ACMOC with data supplied by Caterpillar tells us that S/No 7J2780w falls into production year 1940 (7J1758--7J4118), and R4 6G4702sp falls into production year 1943 (6G2943--6G4951).
Cheers
Eddie B.
