This is the 1944 Cat D8R at the start of its restoration, also a picture of Karl's lifting device. This is a ex military tractor with good running gear but the engine will need a rebuild due to water in the cylinders.Tc tractors will be helping with part of the restoration.Lets hope he does not nobble Karl like he did to Mr Moggeridge!!!
Hope to post photos as the restoration develops.

Replied by tctractors on topic Looks Good,
This latest project of sprokets looks a cracker Martyn , the cylinder head tool required to whip out the precombustion chambers is CAT P/No 1F479 , this tool I cannot find yet , but all this tool is, is a hexagon so an allen key would do the trick, or a piece of hex bar , if sprocket could find out the size required I am sure I can turn up the correct piece, I know on the very early engines this was not threaded into the head, it was hit in place then clamped down,

Dang, I not to long ago gave away the 'CAT' tool for removing the precups.

But for years I used a home made rig. Made it from a large bolt with 2 nuts (right size to fit into precups) screwed on it and welded to bolt.
