HELP
Turned over the main engine today to get everything oiled up and check oil pressure.
0 oil pressure!
drained oil back out and pulled insp cover. Shaft for oil pump turns when engine is rolled over. The pressure relief knob was turned out a long ways and the little metal strap at the top of it had been bent up so it wasn't contacting knob. Make sense so far?????
I turned the knob all the way in and then backed it out one turn. Any ideas if this is even close to correct? Or was the original setting correct?
I put it all back together and hope to spin it over again tomorrow.

Hi beaver-flat,
according to my Serviceman's Reference Book for Caterpillar Diesel Engines (June 1941 third edition) Form 5060B, it states pretty much that "the oil pressure for all engines of the day will at normal operating temperature and speed be Approximately 30 PSI, or half way on the gauge. As long as the needle stays within the "Operating Range", it may be assumed that the oil pump is is operating correctly".
Would pay to check suction screen for clogging from rag lint, carbon deposits, etc.
This would assume the engine bearings, oil pump etc. being in fair condition.

thanks, i have that book as well. Just hoping somebody had experience setting the relief valve
