ok DD, just make sure the piece is good and clean and warmed up when you weld it with a good rod.the mig won't give you the penatration you will need. the best part of this piece is you can see it when you get on and off the cat. so if the welds don't hold you will be able to see it before a problem occurrs.
you did say it was cast???? but it can't be cast because i just welded mine on THE HOOD. but i find that caterpillar steel can be welded with a good 7018 rod.

I (actually my buddy) found another mounting bracket. The holes are all good, it had one pin in it, and it doesn't have any cracks. Price was $60 + shipping.
I am putting it back together now.........
Just wanted to let yall know what happened.
