About to put my D6-2H back together. The tops of the new cyl liners have a step in them, the old sleeves were flat across the top. They will protrude more than the old sleeves by .030-.040. Is this OK? I thought it might be a new design? The bottom of the cylinder head is flat.

Check, but I,m sure your head gasket bore sets around the outside of this higher protrusion doesn,t it & if it does I,m sure you,ll be ok as it should make up the difference if your gasket is thicker than the higher part on the liner. Most the liners are like this in most the engines.

Where were you able to locate new liners? A friend of mine has a #10 patrol with the 5&1/4 bore engine in it. I helped them get it running by attempting to hone out them hard liners and install new rings. Unfortunately one was pitted so badly that it misses terribly untill you get it under load. All three liners had a ring groove worn in the cylinder about 1/16 inch at the top so they are pretty well shot. It now has a little coolant in the oil so he shoved it in the corner of the shed and not worry about it for a while. I'm trying to buy it but they won't part with it, yet.
