Nielsje, I think it is an important issue because of well-paying jobs being sent elsewhere, including quite a few jobs lost in the town I grew up in. I don't know how this is related to any war.
PS: Toyotas have never been used for that kind of racing. They might be decent cars but they are as yet unproven on that sort of racetrack. No way to tell if they are the "best" car or not yet.(for racing)

Hello Dw21,
It's very sad that jobs are sent somewhere else, but that's happening all around the globe. I just think it's quite 'useless' to shout or say that something is 'unamerican', with these kind of statements, you don't change things. I believe it is far more of concern to think about things happening in wars around the globe.
Compared to wars etc., i think it's completly irrelevant if something is american or not, there are worse things in live..
I think it's far more important that american soldiers come back home alive.
I'm very happy that i'm not in the army, now at this moment, or any time.
I'm not aware of the brands which are used in stockcar racing, i've never really follow it. You're right than, that they have to prove themself.
Still then I think it's very strange to burn a brand down, even before it even has seen the track!

I still don't see how this is related to war. To people who have lost jobs, or know those who have, it is pretty important.

it is not related to war.
The only thing I wanted to say is: there are more importand things, for instance: war.
Sure it's sad when people lose their jobs, but I think it's very sad if you're going to shout that things are 'unamerican' like that's gonna help.

It,s not too hard to see why foreign cars have started to come into Nascar racing, it,s all about attendance (money) as the way it was you only had 3 choices of cars & now the tracks will attract more fans for these foreign made cars that they worship.

Gentlemen;
I'm almost sorry I even started this. I guess I should have titled it"Is this appropriate?" and left Un American out of it. When I approached the Cat guys(half of which I am friends with) it was with a sense of humor with a little patriotic jab included. No one was offended and it was not a "rant" in my opinion. My goal is to get the opinion of this respected group on this marketing move by what I would say is one of the last great American Manufactures. I agree that the war in Iraq far overshadows any of this but the war is not the issue of this BB and I think the Caterpillar Company is.
May you all have a great day.

I don,t see where you did anything wrong as everyone on here voices their opinion on whatever comes up & you had good reason to do so, so can,t condemn you or anyone elses take on this subject.

I may as well get my two cents worth of this. Toyota is made in the US of A, what dose that mean? The profets still go out of the country! I think Cat should run and hide there head, putting there name on a Jap car!
Buy what you want, but you will never see me in a Toyota. I get tired of hearing of how good they are made, my friend has been fighting with Toyota over a vibration in his pickup (A Toyota)and they pretty much told him "tough shit". I see a lot of Jap cars parked on the side of the road, waiting for a tow truck.
The only thing in my book is, Toyota has a slick sales campain.
No Jap tractors on my ranch either!
Frank:)

Seems like (again) words spoken through a message board can get intepretated the wrong way, which isn't very handy.
I woudn't ever mind to buy something foreign. Most of the stuff you buy in Europe is foreign, also cat's, they come frome France, or England...
no one seems to bother about that fact. As long as the product you've bought works out, we're all happy and satisfied
Enjoy your day!
Niels
