Can anyone tell me what brand of winch this is and roughly what it will pull.
What size of cable should it have, why doesn't it have any anchors & why are the levers facing away from the machine at such a kak-handed direction?

Wodda weird beast! Firstly, I can honestly say that I have NEVER seen one like it, either before or since. Secondly, I seriously doubt that it would be a 'pulling' or 'towing' winch, probably more of a cable control set-up for rear drawn equipment, like a cable scraper. Thirdly, with a cab on the tractor like that, it wouldn't much matter where you pointed the levers, they're gonna be awkward. Makes me wonder why there isn't a seat on the BACK of the cab. LOL.

that's it......have to say that so far I haven't seen it in the raw, only pics of it, but was thinking it would be good to get serviced up and use it, maybe for winching out fallen tree trunks.

Father is very nervous about winches in general having seen them break cables and how they whip back around, hence I am being over cautious about this one and want to be sure I have got it right. He was saying it needs a thick steel mesh guard up behind the cab just in case the rope breaks.....but as you say the cab will need some alterations and the levers also adapting.

Thats an ONIONS scraper winch, And these are made in the UK. (99% sure)
This factory also made tha scrapers.
I have such a winch , but mine is still in parts.

A winch designed as a Cable Control Unit (ccu) won't really pull much, not the same as a towing/skidding winch. That's why there's usually a series of blocks to get the advantage necessary to lift things etc.

Hi Richard, Ring cautrac and be sure they make sure the fairlead is in the cab. i took it of the winch as is was broken, repairable tho. The middle window, although it does look like it in the picture slides open to the right.
The levers are in the neutral brake on position, first pull position locks into free and the next is drive or pull. As for the make, i didn't see one that was obvious. Regards Gordon.

hi richard that is an onions no12 ccu
i have two ,one on my cat and one for spares
with the levers pushed right back like in the picture, the cone clutches are disengaged
and the brakes are right off
i have a manual somewhere and can give you some specs if you want
how much is it for sale for
i also have the bits to make that one good if needed i think

Definitely an Onions.
I also have one, not in use but lying in the pile of yellow stuff.
Also curious as to the difficulty of operating it, as the levers seem to be in a most awkward position.
