Diesel fuel conditioner/stabilizer for marine applications

Below is a message I just recieved from my son who works on the seismic exploration ship "Viking" operated by Veritas. The work boat he refers to is a 24--28 foot craft that is diesel powered. They are working in the Gulf of Mexico right now----just came out of dry dock in Norway.

They have some top flight mechanical genius's on board----but somebody must be missing something here. I told Reb to check tanks for algae accumulation. Have heard of some bad algae situations here on the farms---but never encountered it myself.

What's the best diesel conditioner on the market now days for a marine application. What would you use to kill algae (if that is their problem).

Daddy,

Can you recommend a quality diesel treatment for keeping diesel clean? Such as a biocide (?)? We had the workboat engine stop the other day because the fuel was absolutely filthy with muck and water. We have 2 filters before it gets pumped into the workboat tank, then a pre-filter inside the engine room, and a regular fuel filter within the fuel delivery system.
The mechanics have emptied the fuel tank last night, and of course changed the filters again today. Ran the boat for about half an hour in the davit (onboard), and found more muck in the filters again!
If nothing else, we may just check on the internet, but I figured you might know a name brand for us to check.

Thanks,

Reb

Any recommendations will be passed on to Reb via e-mail---he works as a Chief Observer in the recording of data department, but they are highly dependent on the "work boat" in the maintenance of their lines and equipment. Thanks

Google "West Marine" and see what they sell. If algae is bad enough you can pump the fuel through a cleaning process and then clean up the system. This is usually warm climate stuff.
Good Luck

Bio Kleen Diesel Fuel Biocide is what I think you need

Microbes in the form of bacteria and fungus are present in all diesel fuels. Long periods of fuel storage can create ideal opportunities for microbes to grow in fuel tanks. The first indication of microbial contamination is mucous-like accumulations on fuel-filters and increased requirements for fuel-filter replacement. Microbes can only be removed from the fuel system by use of a diesel fuel biocide.

Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) Compliant — contains less than 15 parts per million (ppm) sulfur
Effective in all diesel fuels, including ULSD and biodiesel
Dual-Phase — effective in both diesel fuel and water as recommended by major diesel engine manufacturers
Effective as a “quick-kill” biocide and for long-term diesel fuel maintenance
Kills microbes (bacteria and fungi) that grow in dispersed and free water associated with diesel fuels
Prevents fuel-filter plugging — helps prevent fuel system failures
Protects fuel system components against organic acids created by microbial growth — prevents fuel tank corrosion
Improves fuel performance
Reduces engine maintenance costs
Burns similarly to diesel fuel (>106,000 BTU/Gal)

West Marine handles PRI products. www.priproducts.com . I just bought some
PRI-D to treat a 300 gal tank. I've been using Power Service Products the
past four years (its readily available here in michigan). I"ve never bothered
with a fuel sample test but all the fuel in my tanks ,55 gal barrels have stayed
clean with no signs of sludge or slime .
