Joe, yes it is a late 2U with the improved low effort steering which is a joke. Reduced length of pull. Is very touchy on adjusting which must be done more often than the earlier 2Us. Hope another picture shows up. Still use the D8 ocasionaly. Liked 3T and 17A d7's better. Darrol

Hi, Darrol D8H.
Do I see TWIN exhausts stacks on that 2U D8 in your photo above. Is it by some chance a Hi-Output D8?

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Deas Plant, I do not think it is hi-output. Some times the connecting housing gives trouble and someone will attach two stacks. Was that way when I bought it. Darrol

My Dad always said the the 3T D7 was the best balanced of all the Cats. He said that you could easily balance on on to of a log.
Sure would like to have seen him do that but I was a twinkle in his eye at the time.......

Joe, I agree with your dad. Visibility was good, rode good, turned good, just a neat tractor. I used one to farm with, had the optinal transmision which was geared better for farmwork. The 2 others had 25 units with 7S dozers with backup rippers. Pulled LeTouneau LS scraper and LaPlant Shoate 108 scraper. Darrol

Here are plant photos when we toured the Peoria plant around 1963 and a drawing of my Dad's blade guard....
