Joe, there is a growing contingency of folks posting over on Yesterday's Tractors site that state they are not successful at getting registered to this new BB. Can you check it out?

Thanks for the FYI! We seem to be constantly backlogged on getting many approved, but most of it stems from lack of response to additional requests for info. So far I've weeded out well over 4,000 attempted spammer registrations and if a new registrant doesn't have any matching info from the old board (like new folk or those with new info) then they've got to be verified. I think many don't read their email every day or possibly aren't reading the directions and figure once they click "register" that should be it.

In any case we're going through the list pretty much every evening and getting as many as we can validate. But I can't do too much for those that don't respond when emailed. :(

Thanks again!

Joe

Joe,
It seems something that you think is happening in the process is not occurring.
Some of these folks are former posters. Some state that they have responded with the requested info but are still not fully registered. I don't think it is right to just blow them off. What's a solution??

OM, I've been helping Joe on reviewing the registrations. I have sent a simplified request for information to many (several hundred) of the registrants, but, unfortunately, have had far fewer responses. The simplified request is basically, please tell me about your interest in Caterpillar equipment. I've been disappointed at the very few responses I have received. We are not trying to "blow-off" people. I would like to see all legitimate registrants on the bb. If somehow there is human error involved, I'd be pleased to help folks register. Just send me an e-mail at gwhdiesel75[at]msn.com.

As George states we're not blowing people off at all, but I can't force people to respond to me. There are still almost 100 registrants from the beginning of December who haven't responded to at least 3 separate emails attempting to verify that they're legitimate people, and a good number more since then that are pretty much in limbo due to lack of response. When someone does respond we get them finalized the same day they respond in most cases, as I typically work registrations in the evening when I get home from my job.

I'll do whatever I can to get anyone interested in old yellow iron on this forum, even if it means making a phone call and walking someone through the process. ;)

Joe & George,
Thanks for the response. Those that can at least view the BB should get some idea of the effort going on to register them.
On a similar note, there are two sections of the BB, "Announcements" and "BB Operations" Why don't you make use of them to update activities and issues of the registration and any other items of incremental progress that members would be interested in. We are not mind readers.

I think Joe and GWH are doing the best they can .. but there are many problems outside their control.
One is, many people regularly change their email address. If they've changed their email between the time they registered for the last BB, and this one, the mail won't be getting to them.
Second, is, many people use multiple email addresses, and forget to check half of them .. and forget which one they used for the BB registration.
Thirdly, many email program security settings are set to reject emails from people that are not listed by the user as "friend". If this happens, the email gets dumped .. and many people rarely check their "trash'' emails file, to see if their email program accidentally dumped one they really wanted to see .. :(
Fourthly, I wonder how many of these users would have bought a new computer in the meantimes? .. and have set up new accounts and programs, but have forgotten emails left on the old computer?
I'd suggest that the majority of the problem lies with the complainers .. in that they have made major changes to their computer programs, email accounts, etc .. and either have forgotten they have done so .. or don't have the necessary computer skills to retrieve information that has been sent to them.
Kudo's to Joe, GWH and the BOD for setting up a tight registration process. It will ensure the BB remains free of the spammers and scammers, that bugged the old BB.

You all are missing the point:rolleyes:
This BB has the features to communicate events in the two sections mentioned.
A little communication would go a long ways towards helping folks understand what is going on with registration or other topics.
Those that can access the BB but not interact with it could a least see there is activity at the source, don't care what their local problem is so long as the proper effort is being presented.

OM, you are correct about using those two sections of the BB for such informative posts and I have personally been remiss in doing so. When I configured the forum it obviously retained the layout from the old one, and I had thought it would be used moreso by ACMOC and its officers.

Yours is a very good point and I will endeavour to put some info in there over the weekend elaborating on perceived issues with registration.

Thanks! :)

Hi Joe,
Glad we got over that one:D :D
Couple suggestions:
Not looking to make a lot of work for you or a lengthly response.
Maybe something like:
A few stats on the process, requests, rejects, backlog......
The top three....or?? items preventing registration
extra effort expended....
email contact to resolve questions/issues

I would suggest keeping it brief but update more often like maybe every two weeks or.........

Thanks for your efforts.
