You may remember the D-8 8R that was about to be cut up for scrap that I bought. We gathered up all the parts that were taken off and bolted them back on so we could haul it home in one piece. All that we have to do now is restring the cable so we can pick the blade up.
My Dad has been helping me work on it. I'm really enjoying working with him again. We used to work together a lot when I was younger, but we haven't for a while. He's 78 now and he was a catskinner all his life. When I first bought the old Cat, he said " That's just what you need, some more junk." Then he drove out one day and looked at it. A couple of days later, he asked me if I minded if he went out and worked on it when I wasn't there. I guess that you just can't get that Hiway Yellow out of your blood.
I forgot my camera, so I don't have any new pictures, but I'm going to post one of the old ones just to try out the new board.
Oops. I forgot what board I was postings pics on. Next time I'll post a thumbnail.

A good looking tractor, even if it has seen better days. More old "junk" ought to be rescued from the scrap pile. Looks like fun to operate, too! GWH

Looks nice! I like those bottom roller guards. Before trying to start with the pony engine, you should make sure that the starter pinion mechanism is working properly, if the mechanism doesn't throw out the pinion it will pick up such a high speed that the axle will break. I am in the process of restoring a 2U, that had the axle broken, luckily I had a donor.
Good luck
Marcel

gwh,
I haven't got to run it much, but I'm having fun so far. I sure like the sound of that big ol' D13000.
Marcel,
The pinion disengages at a little bit higher RPMs than I'd like. I'll have to adjust the latches one of these days. Those roller guards are pretty common around here with all the rocks that we have.
Here's a couple more pictures that I took of it today. I should get it hauled home this week. Then I have a bunch more parts to put back on it, and some work to do on the transmission.
( I changed my mind. I like full size pics better than thumbnails.)

Looks like a great machine with a lot of potential. I'm envious of the number of machines you have over there for preservation, and more impressed with the condition. With all the rain we get in the UK, machines deteriorate rather a lot when the 'ferris beetle' takes a hold. Good luck with the restoration !
