Unfortunately sometimes it doesn't take much for these magneto's to quit.
The magneto problably has some build up on the points.
If you can take the cap off and gently sand the points, this may solve the problem.
I have gone as far as taking the mageto out and bench testing it to make sure it works.
It sounds like the points arte not working.
Good luck,

Sometimes it takes some pretty aggressive filing of the points to get conductivity.
Best way to check is to lift the mag wire off the ground (upper LH corner) and check for conductivity across closed points....then you know for sure.....common problem:)

I experienced a similar situation a few years back with a Wico mag on a A John Deere that sat all winter. Pulled out my capacitor checker, and found a dead short. Installed a new one, and it hasn't failed to fire since.

Yes im getting too much fuel actually, seems like a stuck float maybe
always have had to be careful with the choke and the throttle when starting.i always shut the fuel off to to stop the starting motor

Tugger,
All of the above. Moisture will corrode the points, the float will stick, gotta love these critters. LOL.
