Idle chatter-no problems D42T

Forewarned this is a bit lengthy-skip to the bottom if you get bored with it.

Well, I have had my D$2T out over the past couple of weekends. No problems. An adjustment remains with the steering clutches. They actually tightened up a bit after about five hours of operation. I thought I was going to need to adjust the main clutch again, but it seems to be holding fine.

My neighbor had a small virginia pine stump he needed dug up and pushed out. Only about 15 inches diamter, but some of the roots were about 8 inches. He needed it out to be able to move his camper.

I think I sprung a minor seep in my fuel filter houseing. After changing the filters and cleaning out the crud in the bottom, I think it must have unplugged a small seep.

My next go around will be to inspect the injectors. The RPM's do not seem to pop as sharp as I expected when I pull back on the throttle. I am also seeing that I am due to adjust/tighten the tracks up. There is just over an inch between the coil spring nut and the track adjusting nut. My Operations Manual says I have up to four inches, ("later tractors"). My thought is I have quite a bit of adjustment left in the tracks. I think it takes a 2-3/4 inch wrench on that nut.

The bean field is picked and a pretty uniform grade so I opened it up in fifth gear the other day. That did a lot of shifting around with things. That is when the tracks began to droop.

Something ocurred that I thought was just a myth and folklore based on previous experience. That being I was able to start the main without holding engaged the starting pinion. I adjusted the latch adjusting screws a little at a time, half a turn each try, and it hit right. In all one was out two turns and one was out one and a half. The heads are just level with the surface of the sleeve. There is actually enough room in that little inspection hole to make the adjustment pretty easily.

I still need to hold the starting engine clutch forward or it will slip out, but the starting pinion staying engaged while the main kicked over was a thrill. I started that adjustment when I got the machine. I need to get back in there.

I sure enjoy haveing the starting engine tank and the air breather mounted properly on the dash. The tractor sure looks a little more complete and I was able to get rid of the plastic lawnmower tank that uncermoneously came with it.

Another little project that will be done in the next few days is installing the release bearing oil cups I have. I will probably post again for a set of tubes with good ends to attach the cups to.

That is about it for now. I may add something later. Glad to have it moving again and glad to have found the two boards.

I never would have dreamed I could garner so much help from total strangers. I am genuinely appreciative of your help. Many of you contributed respectful answers to oftentimes bizarre and remedial questions. :o
