D4 7U Pony Motor Question

More
16 years 1 week ago #23010 by Michael Crowe
I guess the last time I refilled the air breather on the pony, i overfilled it as the next time I started it, oil blew out the exhaust. I ran it a bit longer and the oil blow stopped, but a few minutes later when I went to give the diesel compression I stalled the pony and now can't seemed to get it started. It turns over fine, just does not hit. Any suggestions on what I should do? Any help appreciated. Michael

Maybe the plugs are fouled from the oil.

I would clean the plugs, open the drains on the heads. Then pull it over a few times to blow out the cylinders. Then try to start it.
Check you have fuel in the tank.

After the plugs are clean and oil blown out of the cylinders, a quick "sniff" of ether into each plug hole before the plugs go back in will make that initial start a lot easier. I'll sometimes do that during cold weather with a worn pony motor as a matter of course if it's reluctant to fire up.

Do you have the choke fully engaged? Also, after sitting for several months, once I got the starting engine starting I ran some carb cleaner through it. I am back to two or three pulls with the rope to start.
