D7 resurrection questions again

Hello again everyone. So the D7 I am looking at (SN 47A1356) has a couple more concerns. First, I drained the pony motor and diesel engine oils today and main engine oil level was right at the T on “NOT” so assuming it wasn’t actually overfill like I assumed it was but it definitely was very thin and smelled strong like diesel. The pony motor had a gallon or so of coolant in it before oil came out of the drain and then it wasn’t much oil in total that came out. Then, decided to check for spark and had zero spark. I removed the magneto and it had a wire that had come loose but it was to the ground lug on the cover that wasn’t connected to anything. I found a blue wire with a ring terminal hanging below the magneto but no signs of it having ever been connected to the magneto. It is electric start pony motor so not sure if it is supposed to be connected or not or if it even would go to that. I resoldered the wire and reinstalled the magneto but still no spark. Any ideas on what else to look for?Next, I reinstalled the carb and gas tank and the carb started pouring gas out of the choke butterfly shaft seal. Maybe find a used carb? Where would be a good place to look?At this point I’m pretty certain that it would be converted to electric start with the coolant in the pony  crankcase and the carb issues as well.

Next, I checked coolant level and had to add 5 gallons to get coolant back to top of the radiator. Is it possible the coolant leaked into the pony motor and then into the transmission?Lastly, I drained a little oil out of the final drives and the right side had some very tiny flakes at the bottom. Left side had some greyish looking oil come out but not many flakes. Not much but not sure what is “normal” for them to have in them. I know on John Deere tractors it’s not uncommon to see some small flakes when draining the rear ends but they’ll still last several more decades  more than likely.

None of the above sounds good, Are you looking for a tractor that you can run with a minimal amount of work or are you wanting to do major work as a project?

IMO I would be leery about what this unit may need to put it in running condition. It could get rather expensive quickly. Water in the wrong places is never a good sign and can be minor gasket leaks to major cracks in castings. If you are not familiar with Cats this could be a real problem to try to rehabilitate.

Is the engine free? Did you change oil in the main so if by chance it starts you won't shell it out. Sounds like it could be a money pit..

Just My Opinion. .

The collant in starting engine could be pony head gasket or crack head and about the magneto maybe you need to clean the point and am still have a carburator and magneto

Are you saying you still have a carb and magneto?

Magneto wire possibly broken eyelet by accident or on purpose. Some guys cannot get spark, and in haste, disable the mag switch by snapping the connector off, to rule out a bad switch. (It is just a grounding device). Proper shut down on a pony is to allow it to run out of gas; the switch should be used for emergency.
Not familiar with the carb on the D7, as all mine were converted to direct electric start. Perhaps it is a sticky float/needle not seating.
If you clean up the points/cap and get some spark, maybe put a few drops of gasoline in the spark plug hole to "prime" it so it will cough.
As much as some love the sound of a pony motor, they require proper maintenance.
Good luck with your project. JM
