Trying to get a few more running for 100yrs of Caterpillar next year. D4C 240 Australian assembly same as 40A I believe. Hydraulic oil is getting into engine sump. Only place I can think of would be the drive shaft on the hydraulic pump. I have parts book for the tractor but it does  not show the hydraulic pump can someone please post a parts diagram or part number. thanks for looking WF

If you can look at the tag on your tank, I might be able to narrow it down to GPM. Here is what I have for 39A and 40A machines. See if you can determine the serial number for your 141 or 143 unit. JM

Thanks Juiceman. No tag on the tank unless it is behind the dash panel, surley not. Only clue i have is pump has cast on the end Vickers Vane and some patent numbers I can't decipher. Both the parts diagram you kindly posted show the same part number for the seal 4J980 so that may be a starting point. thanks WF

Hi WF.
I suspect that the seal on the shaft would be a double lip seal that should be available at a bearing shop in Horsham. If the kidney plate seals are gone they might be able to match them at a hydraulic shop. It will be a gear type pump looking at the shape of it so should be
easy to fix. Most gear type pumps i have had apart you can get seals for locally. Good luck.

sperry-vickers is now part of eaton fluid power. so any decent hydrualics joint should be able to source parts for it. and yes that seal is probably a generic double or triple lip seal.
