Decided tonight would be a good night to change the fuel filters. Hard to say when the last time that was done. The old ones are the cloth wound like twine. The new ones from NAPA are more of a cloth sock..NAPA Part Number 3164 for anyone looking to purchase a set.
Still adjusting the starting pinion latches, still seem to kick off a little early. Maybe one more half revolution...making for a total of one. Fuel pressure prior to the filter change seems to be the same now after the change. I can tell a significant difference in the throttle response. Much quicker this evening. Did not take it for a drive-raining and I still have another adjustment to the main clutch.

Bernie,
Regarding the low fuel pressure, have you checked the fuel bypass valve yet? That's the most common place to check when pressure isn't what it should be. .crud sometimes collects in it or the valve and spring may be bad, sometimes even the seat gets worn. The replacement parts for it are in stock at Cat at not too bad of a price. The replacement valve is faced with a soft material whereas the originals were brass faced. Replacing 'em made quite a difference in both my 4's, not only higher pressure but more power as well. Just a thought. . .

I may not have been clear-pressure prior to and after filter change seems OK-I was a little surprised the pressure WAS as good as it was after seeing those four filters I removed. It makes me think I may need to replace my current fuel gauge as well.
Not to say the bypass does not need a look see. I will add that to the list. I do see a pretty significant throttle response difference now compared to before with the crudded filters.
Thanks Paul-

the old tractors had plenty of filter area and could stop a lot of crap before the pressure dropped too low. Bernie, those are discolored, but I can still see the string wrapping. I have replaced some that were so covered with crud that the string couldn't be seen. That housing also had a thick lining of the same stuff and had to be scraped down and flushed out the drain at the bottom.
