Hi, Firpitch.
The 'C' blade is the cushion push blade for push-loading scrapers. As Old Magnet said, it is mounted to push trunnions located inside the tracks on the main frame of the tractor. It is also only about the same width as the outside of the tracks and has shock absorbers built in to allow for picking up scrapers from directly behind without beating the scraper operator half to death - - - not that some of 'em don't need it from time to time. LOL.
A 'straight' blade has the cutting edge in a single straight line right across the blade face and vertical ends.
A 'semi-U' blade has the corner tips and the ends above the corner tips angled forward on each side to help keep the dirt contained within the blade face.
A 'U' blade has about 1/4 to 1/3 of the blade width on each side angled forward to act as a sort of bowl to carry more material for bulk pushing applications such as stockpile work.
An 'angle' blade has the actual blade pivotted in the center on a 'C' frame and adjustable braces each side with usually 3 separate anchor points on each side of the 'C' frame to allow the blade to be angled one way or the other or set square across the machine. An angle blade usually has a cutting edge that is a straight line all the way across and the sides are scalloped inwards in a curve between the corner tip and the top of the blade. This scallop allows the blade to present a more or less straight edge to the forward side of the cut when the blade is angled.
These are just a few of the more common permutations of 'dozer blade'.
Hope this helps.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Thanks Deas. I have an angle blade for my 2U. I have added hyd. tilt on my straight and clearing blades. It looks to me that if I were to do this on the angle blade it would take two cylinders and plumbed in series to tilt. Did Cat make a tilt angle blade? firpitch

Hi, Firpitch.
I have seen two-cylindered Cat angling blades but do not know if they were Cat originals or somebody's modifications. I will say that the tilt rams did look Cat, but I also didn't get all that close as I was being paid to work rather than conduct investigations.
I have only ever seen about two of them and both were on D6C-D dozers. It can be done and quite simply. The dollars that you spend on such a project are pretty much up to you. How GOOD do you want it to be?
Just a li'l note: If you are thinking about doing this, it might be a good idea to think about using ball-and-cup joints at the top-blade ends of the rams to help eliminate any twisting forces, similar to standard Cat tilt rams or screw-tilt braces.''
Hope this helps.

Thanks Deas, BTW when I added hyd to the 2U, I used the Cat generator drive on top of the h2o pump so that no belts were required. Fabricated a plate with a bearing and used an off the shelf pump. Used a fuel tank from a 3T and welded 1/8 half couplings near top and bottom with 90 deg compresson fittings with clear tubing for a sight glass. I can tilt back and forth under full load with a lever that is near my legs sos I can tilt, raise blade and turn at the the same time. firpitch

With all that engineering ability, when do we see a joystick control on that 2U for blade lift and tilt? Donchya love a challenge? LOL.

Hi Deas,
this is my attempt at sending a photo. The first shot told me that the size was too large so My wife did some kind of magic and this photo may work. I do just fine with a torch and stinger or turning wrenches or skinin cats but this comeputer deal is past my skill set. Got grand kids on the way to save me. firpitch

Hi, Firpitch.
Doesn't matter how you got it posted, you got it posted. Good stuff.
The blade on the 2U appears to be a straight blade but the blade on the D9 appears to be what is known as a semi-U blade, with the corner tips and the blade ends above them angled forward to help retain the material within the blade.
Thanks for sharing.

Deas,
Here are the pictures of the tank with site glass and filter on left and breather on top. The factory fill cap goes out through the hood. (Need to be careful when adding gas to pony or hyd fluid) Guess I should color code. Red hose gravitys oil to pump below. Sorry about picture quality but the side engine guard makes it hard to see. Tilt lever is next to seat. Note sheets of Bounce fabric softener on seat and spread over Cat. It seems to repell mice that love to nest in equipment. Won't work if they are already there but keeps them from starting. firpitch
