D2 5J1555SP came on a piece of property I purchased a few months ago. From what I heard it hasn't run in 30 years. Pony spins freely, but I'm not sure about the diesel. The machine is infested with poison oak so I need to move it before I can really assess it.

JP that is a very straight 5J. 30 years? The track pads are in great shape, no deep rust or pitting from sitting. Almost looks like it was recently used. Thank you, JM

That's what I was thinking JM although the part that's sitting in the dirt might be ugly. Once he gets it moved he'll be able to check it over more

I am still pretty new to the Caterpillar and D2 game, however I have managed to start a very small collection. Also, much thanks to JM for being a constant source of advice and information.
1951 5U “Carl”, dirt guards, rear pump and electric pony. (The day I purchased it)
1956 orchard model, direct start (barn find)
1956 5U, rock guards, winch, solid front idlers, belly pan, blade and direct start.

Years ago a friend of ours told me to take my dad out to see his D2s.These plus more in his shop.Dad had a couple of D2s he farmed trees with in his younger days.
One year I took dad to the Tulare show and there was a D2 just like the one he had.I watched dad look at that tractor for a looong time.I could only imagine what was going through his head at the time.He did say it looked better than the one he bought brand new
Thanks Dave for the memories if you are still on here

Gary: Dave Starn? He had some nice iron. Many do not know that his family developed the “Starn” variety cling peach, one the best extra late varieties to farm.
Not sure what is left of his collection. JM
***I think Breadler should name the orchard CAT after me, since he kept it secret to himself...sworn to secrecy, hmmmmmmm, I get it now LOL. He didn't mention that the serial number is 17,008...***
